A Horsey Hero

Merritt has graduated from pony to horse and found a new best pal. Harry is a handsome fella that "is like riding a cow" (quote from Merritt... I think it's a compliment, although I've never ridden a cow). Nonetheless, she loves him and he's going to be a great horsey honey!

Yep, he's as big as he looks. I snapped this photo when I was helping her put his bridle on because she can only reach up to his fuzzy forehead!

Makin' it Our Own!

We've almost finished unpacking so we thought it was time to put our own stamp (man, stamps would've been SO much easier) on our house. Merritt and Kohl's rooms got the first revisions...

Love the chalkboard paint!

The little pixelated Kohlie portrait is yet to come, but we put a dummy (poor choice of words) up in it's place.

It was a "Pinterest-y" Valentines Day!

We decided to go out with a bang with Merritt's gifties, as she probably won't be exchanging them next year (gulp). Kohl's only input was to "not make them too mushy." I guess he meant the wording and not the consistency of the goodies...

Fox Huntin'! (no foxes were harmed in the hunting of this fox)

Merritt just completed her first mounted fox hunt and she had a blast! Harvey was her trusty steed and he did a great job! No foxes were seen, but the hounds (not to be confused with dogs) did their best to make the hunt exciting. Good friends, horses and great food! Tally-ho!!!

Christmas Catch Up!!!

So, I guess I've been somewhat busy since... well, Christmas! I have downloaded all my holiday photos and wanted to post a few of the highlights... Enjoy!

Ewan feeling less than spirited in his Christmas sweater...
Freddy had a last hurrah slurping our syrup!

Our super cute cork wreath (thanks, Jason for drilling the tiny holes and Habersham for the vino... hiccup)!

Horsin' around with Lauren Taylor and Merritt.

It's a Birthday Party... County Fair Style!

We hosted Merritt's class and close friends this weekend at her County Fair themed birthday party! There was a "photo op" booth, sack races, tin can knock down, a pie eating contest, a serve-yourself candy bar station, homemade caramel apples and gorgeous weather, to boot! I'll let the pictures tell the story!

This was the first of several legs of the sack race. We divided the groups out by height and I was amazed at how athletic (and competitive) some of those dainty little girls were! And yes, the burlap sacks are being converted into cute home decor items!

The tin can knock down was a hit as it was easy for any age group to set up and knock down with little grown up assistance (which was key at certain points of the day).

We had about 14 pie eaters (cherry and apple) and they did a great job! This was definitely the favorite activity of the day. The kids had about 3 minutes to see how much they could eat, which (at the most) ended up being the equivalent of about 2 big slices. A few of the kids even wanted to save their pies for later!

We had cupcakes for days (I'm looking at about 8 in my kitchen right now) and it was a sweet way to end a super fun day! Happy 11th birthday, my big girl!

I Love Ornamental Cabbage and Kale!

There. I said it! It's just so versatile... it lasts so long, it's cold-hardy and it comes in so many different colors and textures! This may by my most random and useless blog entry, but it needed to be said.
