We spent a homework-free afternoon on Calhoun Street at the Farmer's Market. Merritt and Kohl both brought their wallets to buy "a treat." True to form, Merritt bought homemade pork dumplings from a little old Chinese lady (delish!) and Kohl bought a giant ice cream sandwich and a soda!

Our Weekend in Sheldon...
We had an amazing weekend in
Sheldon, SC. It's only about an hour away, but it feels like another
world when you get there. We went to St. Helena Episcopal Church's Earth
Day Service at the Old Sheldon Church ruins (built in the 1700's and
burned to the ground twice, the latter by Sherman as much of this area
was). It was so amazingly beautiful, as was the huge picnic that was
held afterwards on the grounds of the church ruins.
Another
highlight was Merritt being reunited with Oscar and Ms. Gini at Huspa Plantation in Sheldon. She had her first lesson after almost 2 months
and as you can see in the video, she made up for lost time with lots of
moxie and enthusiasm. Long gone are the days of my timid little rider!
Heeya!!
Fagan Frenzy!
We took the first few days of the second week (yes, we had TWO weeks
off) and went to visit the Fagans, our old neighbors in Baton Rouge. We
met them in Orange Beach, AL and stayed at "the tin can" (aka their
super fun mobile home). It was such action-packed fun and the kids had
an absolute blast!! The mommas were able to surprise the girls by
bringing Suzie back to Destin with us for a few days. Merritt was able
to share her "home town" with her best gal pal... it was very cool.
Easter Run
Merritt and Kohl ran for the second year in the Kelly Plantation Easter
"Fun Run". It was a well-thought and well-run event. Kohl had a strong
start (maybe a little too strong) and Merritt did well to pace herself
with GG during the whole race. They both sprinted for the last 75 feet
or so and finished with smiles and pink cheeks! We celebrated with fried
chicken and one of many egg hunts! Great day!
Spring Break... The Second Generation!
We met our friends, the Taylors and the Cannons (Tiffany Ciullo Taylor
and Patty Lee Cannon have been friends of mine since we were our kids
ages), in Destin for Spring Break this year! We had such a great time
and all of our kids absolutely loved spending so much time together.
We've all made a pact to nurture their little friendships as much as we
have our own over the last 25 or 30 years! Of course, they've all got
iPod touches and have been texting one another non-stop, so technology
is on our side!
